In a culture of "helicopter parenting," in which mothers are tempted to manage every moment of their children's lives to ensure future success, it's peculiar that no one seemed interested in Barack Obama's mother when his political career began to skyrocket. Maybe the anomaly of his absentee, Kenyan father was so enticing that no one gave much thought to the oddly named Stanley Ann Dunham. No one, that is, except Janny Scott.
In 2008, Scott left her job as a New York Times reporter to research the life of then Senator Obama's late mother. She interviewed hundreds of Dunham's family members, colleagues, and friends. She traveled all over the world, tracing her subject's journeys. Scott's meticulous research shows; hers is an absorbing book that details Dunham's rich, disordered life.
In 2007, the Baptist World Alliance reported that there were about 53 million Baptists in the world, with about two-thirds of them located in the United States. When compared with Catholics, Anglicans, Seventh-day Adventists, Pentecostals, and other Christian groups that in recent decades have become thoroughly international, this concentration of the Baptists in one country is striking.
Yet comparison with the situation a century earlier shows that Baptists too have been experiencing the globalization that is now standard for other Christian movements. Early in the 20th century, only 3 percent of the world's Baptists lived outside of the United States, Canada, and Britain. Today that proportion is about 30 percent.

In his new release titled, A Praying Time: Why We Need to Pray Now More than Ever, Daniel Whyte III provides the solution to the many problems that our world is facing, such as: the destruction of the family, unemployment, the worldwide financial collapse, homosexual marriage, as well as numerous natural disasters and global unrest. In A Praying Time, Daniel Whyte III rallies believers to the all-important work of prayer by first showing seven reasons why this is a praying time, and then showing the importance of Jesus Christ's principle that "men ought always to pray, and not to faint." This book will help readers to open their eyes, clear their vision, and prepare them to take part in the important intercessory work that God expects of all believers. Readers will be challenged to pray for the world, their communities, their churches, and their families like never before.

"As is the business of tailors to make clothes and cobblers to make shoes, so it is the business of Christians to pray." --MARTIN LUTHER
